STAND!

“Without a doubt, Sly Stone is in the Mount Rushmore of Bay Area legends.” – Questlove
We couldn’t agree more. Stand! – Sound Summit’s upcoming multi-artist celebration of Sly Stone high atop the Bay Area’s own iconic mountain this September – took on a sudden and unexpected poignancy when Sly passed just a week following our recent announcement of this special performance. Featuring a rich tapestry of Bay Area musicians, including Taj Mahal, Narada Michael Walden, Greg Errico (founding member and drummer of Sly & The Family Stone), Martin Luther McCoy, Vicki Randle, and more to come, all backed by a top-flight house band assembled by Larry Batiste and including Sly’s bassist Rustee Allen and members of Graham Central Station, Stand! promises to be a heartfelt, stirring, and seriously funky tribute to a visionary man and his music here in the Bay where he made everyone proud and continues to do so.
We invite you to come celebrate this brilliant shooting star whose game-changing impact, both musically and culturally, has traveled light years beyond him. As resonant musically and lyrically as when they were written, Sly’s timeless tunes speak as powerfully to the moment as they do to enduring memory. And in that sense, Sly definitely lives on!
